An Orisha is a spirit or diety that reflects one of the manifestations of god. The Orishas rule over forces of nature and humanity. They are recognized through their different colors and each has their own favorite food and other things that they like.
The Orishas are best understood by observing the forces of nature they rule over. For example, you can learn about Oshun by watching the rivers that she rules over. Some of the Orishas are: Oya, Shango, Yemaya, Ogun, Ochosi, Obatala and Elegua, Oshun, Orunmila.

Ashe
The yoruba traditionally believe that daily life depends on proper alignment and knowledge of one's ori (head). Ashe (Ase) is the life force that runs through all things living and inanimate. Ashe is the power to make things happen. It is an affirmation used in prayers and greetings. Orisha worshipers try to obtain ashe through "Iwa-Pele" or gentle and good character and in turn they experience alignment with Ori (inner peace and satisfaction with life). Ashe is divine energy from Olodumare, the creator and is manifested through Olorun who rules the heavens and the sun. Ashe is also associated with Eslu. It represents the link to the presence of god, the Orishas and the Ancestors.
